More Than a Pay Check

Your work matters.  It’s important to those you serve or for whom you build things, to family members who depend upon you, and for your own sense of well-being.  If your work is in sync with these things, you’ll know that what you do is about more than a pay check.  When you feel this way, others will feel it too.

The company is a collection of like-minded people, working together to deliver on the promises we make daily.  It is your work, joined together with the work of others, that produces results.  If people are just working at a company for the job, the work may be acceptable; it might even be occasionally good. To build something consistently great, however, requires more than just hands and feet; greatness is fueled by hearts and minds.  Greatness is about working for more than a pay check.

If your mindset is already focused on greatness, stay the course and collaborate with others who share your passion.  If you’re seeking the spark to improve from good to great, consider your “Why?” (your true purpose: What’s Your Story?); start by thinking differently about the work you do. Then make sure your personal values and those of your company align with that purpose.  As you work, test every decision you make and action you take against those standards.  That’s when remarkable happens!

When you do what you do for the right reasons, your work will be about more than a pay check. The compensation will be there as the results of your labor, not as the purpose of it.

Enjoy the Journey!

    Good gracious morning Mr. Dellecker,
I wanted to let you know that “once again” your post was a great read. As usual; I apply these words of wisdom, not only to my character here @ Yellowstone, but also…to my personal life.
Once a month, I print one of these and post to our bulletin board. Although they are all good read….usually, it’s one that just “catches my eye.”
    Have a great day!

  • well put Bill. Safety Customers, Profits, Growth, Team – all in balance – and enviable on each. As each of us looks at Ourselves and our Team – we need to find the same balance. Intellectual growth, Individual health and wellness, Family, Home, Fun/Social life. None of us should just be punching a clock at work. And none of us should just be going home and collapsing on the couch in front of the TV. Make every bit of every part of your life enviable. You’ll be smiling along the way…. Again – well written. Thanks – tim
